LATER

It is now stated that not more than 100 of our men were killed, and some 200 or more wounded while the loss to the enemy was tremendous.

The Yankees came on the Island, at a point where a bridge had been erected by Gen. Wise, for our troops in case they had to retreat.  They had to march up a road, where our men had stationed some 12 pounders and their loss was terrible.

Several of our men were shot in the water, as they were trying to make their escape by swimming ashore.
